Math: During the 2016/2017 school year: Students will be applying their functional math skills by identifying, counting, adding, subtracting, multiplying different coins, currency, and dollar amounts. They will be involved in practicing ordering items on line, ordering from a restaurant, budgeting, and balancing check books. They will also be applying functional math skills by practicing English Measurement by identifying mass, liquid, and distance measures. Some will be involved in applying time using an analog clock to the hour and minute. While others focus on elapsed time. Some will also apply geometry skills by solving for area and perimeter. While some students will be identifying and counting numbers from 1-100.
Family and Consumer Science: During the 2016/2017 school year: Students will be learning the following: Kitchen Hygiene and Safety, How to use kitchen appliances, Nutrition, Measuring ingredients, Grocery Shopping, Independent Cooking skills, and sewing skills( if time permits). We will be taking a trip to Giant Eagle to implement our grocery shopping skills, money skills, and to purchase the ingredients needed to prepare our recipes. Our goal is to teach students to become more independent preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks in the kitchen
Reading/Language Arts: During the 2016/2017 school year: Students will be applying their reading skills by interpreting fiction and nonfiction text, identifying characters, main idea, and supporting details. They will be reading a novel as a group, answering comprehension questions, learn vocabulary words and discuss their meaning, fluency, research, and complete a variety of activities. They will also complete daily response journals and weekly spelling activities.
